Dayprowl Success!

May 15th, 2011 posted by Simon
Scouts

Another outstanding performance from the 3HH Scouts at the District “dayprowl” competition. Well done folks!

Dayprowl is an annual event where teams of between 4 and 7 scouts navigate around a course during the day. Along the course there are a series of bases where the teams are presented with either mental or physical challenges. Points are awarded for how well the teams navigate around the route, how they tackle the challenges and for the quality of their route cards and general preparation.

Overall the 3HH Scouts did us proud and landed 1st, 3rd, 5th and 12th places. They all did brilliantly well :-)

Many thanks to John W for organising everything to get 3HH there and for sorting out the base activities on the day.

Just a quick reminder for the Scout sections that we will be having a joint night rowing on Tuesday 24 May. We will be meeting at the jetty near to Richmond Bridge 6.30pm sharp and the pick up will be at the same place at 9pm. Please try to be prompt, once we set off only speedboats will ever catch us!! Wear full uniform and any outer clothing suitable for prevailing weather conditions. Life jackets are supplied.

Cost £3 in coins please, (don’t have to be real gold coins, but we have to cross the Capn’s palm me hearties)

Sainsburys and Tesco Voucher Schemes

May 8th, 2011 posted by Paul
3HH Group Don't Miss!

Both Sainsburys and Tescos voucher schemes are closing soon, with Sainsbury’s stopping giving out vouchers as of 31st May and Tesco having stopped this weekend.

Please ensure that all vouchers are returned to the collecting boxes at the HQ as soon as possible so we can place our orders in a timely fashion. Every year we have run this exceptionally valuable free scheme a large number of vouchers go unused as they appear after we have completed our one-time-only order and once the order is placed, we cannot even bank any excess vouchers for the following year.

Many thanks all.

Scouts Easter Camp 2011

April 22nd, 2011 posted by Simon
Scouts

Just a quick note to say how brilliantly everyone did at this year’s Easter camp; the weather was outstanding, the activities were fab and the Scouts just incredible. It doesn’t seem possible that the last time we were at Downe there was 4″ of snow followed by 4″ of mud!

A huge thanks to all the adults who made the camp possible, and especially to Clare and Sarah who did all the hard work planning the camp. Thank you so much.

We have posted a bunch of photos below and will add any more we find in the coming days. But please do take a look; the shots of scouts barrelling down the zip wire upside down and clambering around the knee wobbling hi-ropes course offer a glimpse into what they get up to while away with us (as well as proving that they do in fact actually know how to wash up .. err, well just about).

20110416 Scouts Easter Camp 2011

This year in particular the quality of the “skits” around the camp fire, which we shared with the 3HH Cubs on the final night, were just stunning. It’s wonderful to see the Scouts put together something so well. And the “hammocks ‘n tarps” sub-camp on the final night really underscores what amazing adventures the Scouts get to enjoy. Long may it last!

As always, if you have any feedback please do let us know. Otherwise we’ll see you in the new term and enjoy the rest of the holidays / kit washing / Easter eggs etc.

Cub Camp – WELL DONE!

Cubs

Hi Cubs – WOW – what a great camp we had, but it went so quickly! We’ve all clocked up another 4 nights away and 1 or 2 hikes that will go towards the staged badges, a few of those to be handed out to Snowdon Cubs when we go back, I’m sure Wend will have to do some too.

You were all awesome at the activities, especially the aerial trek – I almost had to turn back on the long beam – half of you just ran across!!! We’ve got loads of photos, as soon as I have all of them from the people that took them I’ll sort through and get them up on the 3HH Website. (update: the photos can be found at this link)

As always, please do let us know any feedback, it’s always welcome. I think the big thing for a lot of you was not being able to sleep in tents, sadly we didn’t get the site we wanted and it just wasn’t practical this time.

Thanks again to all the adults and young leaders that were there for some or all of it, Wend, Linda, Chris, Andy, Fidelma, Ali, Andy, Fiona, Charlie and Lucy. Also Julia and Amy who chipped in well above the call of duty. Finally a huge thanks to Jane for keeping us all well fed and watered and to Diana for being our home contact.

Cheers, see you all soon.

I knew there was a reason I forgot to return the trophy that Claws Troop won last year at the Richmond District Air Rifle Competition…….. and that would be that I didn’t need to!

Claws were the first troop shooting in the competition last Monday 7th March and set the standard with a team score of 605. Talons shot in the last slot this Tuesday 15th March and came in with an (unconfirmed) team score of 530 points therefore taking second place and meaning that Claws have retained the title for a second year helped by good scores from Jacob H (109 and 2nd placed 12 and under), Ella L and Clare M both with an excellent 106 (both 3rd placed 12 and under).

Other highlights include: Mattie top U14 with 114 and Hampton Explorers taking 1st place in their league.

Well done to all in the teams and to my training team for producing such high standards. We now form half the team going to represent GLSW in the inter-County competition so good luck Mattie, Lily, Jacob and Sam.

Tesco and Sainsbury’s Voucher Schemes

February 7th, 2011 posted by Paul
3HH Group Beavers Cubs Explorers Scouts

Once again both Sainsbury’s and Tesco have started their voucher schemes ‘Active Kids’ and ‘Schools and Clubs’ and this year your Scout group is registered for both. These are excellent schemes which in previous years have supplied the group with tents, cooking and camping equipment along with games and activity bits and pieces as well, so by donating your vouchers you’ll be helping to keep your subs and camp costs lower as we use these schemes to replace tired equipment.

There are two boxes in the HQ by the kitchen hatch, one for each supermarket so relieve those bulging wallets and purses of all those unwanted vouchers and help your group both get the kit it needs and save your cash!

You might be interested to hear about the latest installment in 3HH’s ongoing growth and development. After so much success in purchasing essential new kit we now find ourselves in the happy position of struggling to accomodate it all.

So with the fantastic assistance of one of the Scout parents, who is also rather conveniently an architect, we’ve started to plan out an extension to our existing building.

And of course, if there are any building firms, material suppliers, electricians, willing hands etc out there who would like to donate anything towards to the project, we’d be thrilled to hear from you! ;-)

There are some early notifications for other events coming up in 2011, make sure you get these on the calendar and as always, please make a note of the Church Parades and try to make at least one of them!!

On a couple of evenings (9th Feb and 15th March) we’ll need some extra help to assist with activities, if you think your Mum, Dad, Uncle, Aunt, Gran – anyone – would like to help then give them a nudge in my direction…

As usual we’ve got a couple of joint nights lined up so we get together with our chums in Nevis pack, Monday 14th Feb and Wednesday 13th April.

And finally, don’t forget James Bond Easter Camp 16th to 20th April. I’ve had a few replies for this already so if you want to come then get your names down quick!
